Marrakech:

As a historical and cultural crossroad, Marrakech reveals the diversity in the Berber, Oriental, and Spanish-Moorish artistic expressions that impregnate the architecture and the decoration of the entire city. Marrakech is a sensual paradise set against the backdrop of the majestic Atlas Mountains. Marrakech is the most visited of Morocco's three Imperial Cities. As an imperial, centuries-old city, Marrakech possesses both the rigour and roughness of Berber art and the richness of the Moorish-Spanish art which bears the signs of Mediterranean, Hellenic, and West Asian influence. Yet, the most ancient artistic expressions known in Morocco go as far back as the end of the Neolithic era (about 3,000 years BC). The city itself bursts with commerce, boasting the largest souk (market) in the country. Traversing the alleyways and souks of Marrakech, particularly in the Medina (Old City), it is easy to believe you have been transported back in time or stumbled onto a movie set for a medieval 'Arabian nights' production. It is this enchanting fairy tale quality that brings thousands of sightseers to the most visited of Morocco's three Imperial Cities. The modern side of Marrakech with its luxury hotels and restaurants blends well with the past in a metropolis made up of the peoples of the Berber Atlas tribes, Mahgrebis from the plains, and Saharan nomads. True to its own tradition, Marrakech has become the favourite place of secondary residences for artists, businessmen, and celebrities who are delighted to have found a splendid haven of continuous peace and tranquillity. Marrakech has been the venue for many international conferences (nearly one every week!) and has built up an impressive track record in the sector. There are direct (low cost) flights to Marrakech from major European cities e.g. London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Rome, Manchester, etc.
